Introduction | Born in Tokyo in 31. He studied at the Aoibashi Western Film Institute, run by Kuroda Seiki, and in 9 he joined Nikkatsu Mukojima Film Studio as an assistant director. In 12, he was promoted to director with "The Day Love Resurrected." After the Great Kanto Earthquake, he moved to Nikkatsu Taishogun Studio in Kyoto. He was active from the silent film era, with films such as "Paper Dolls: Whispers of Spring" (15), "Okichi the Chinese Woman" (5), and "The White Threads of the Waterfall" (8), and gained fame with "Laniwa Elegy" and "Sisters of Gion" (11). During the war, he made a series of arts films for Shochiku, including "The Tale of the Chrysanthemums" (14) and "A Man of the Arts" (16). After the war, he released masterpieces such as "Saikaku Ichidai Onna" (27), "Ugetsu Monogatari" and "Gion Bayashi" (28), "Sansho the Bailiff" and "Chikamatsu Monogatari" (29).
