Join

Not limited to theatrical film directors, but also directors of TV dramas, documentaries, animations, VPs, PR, commercials, web, and all other video media.
Anyone who works as a supervisor can join. Applications are accepted with the recommendation of an association member. Applications are reviewed and approved by the board of directors.
When joining, you will be required to pay a registration fee of 1 yen and a capital investment of 1 yen (the capital investment will be returned when you leave). The membership fee is 3,500 yen per month. In addition, there are also partnerships with Eiren and ATP.
We will request an administrative fee of 8% of the "additional fee for secondary use of the film" based on the collective agreement, which will be used to cover the association's operating expenses.
These rights are rights won through collective bargaining by the Directors Guild and are paid for through the Directors Guild.

Main activities

[Collective agreement]
In 1971, the Copyright Act was revised, and it became clear that ``copyrights of movies belong to movie production companies.'' The Directors Association is promoting a movement to revise the Copyright Law in order to acquire copyrights, but for the time being we are working to expand and protect rights in the form of collective bargaining agreements with film production companies.

[Movie discount admission pass]
The Japan Video Professionals Union is issuing discounted admission passes, called "AV3 Cards," free of charge.
If you present this card before purchasing your ticket at any cinema affiliated with the Japan Cinema Association, you can watch the movie at the senior rate (currently 1,300 yen).

[Legal consultation]
When various problems arise regarding the production of video works, the association provides consultation and, if necessary, introduces you to a lawyer.

[Tax consultation]
Due to the nature of their work, many directors seem to be worried about filing their taxes. For this reason, a contracted tax accountant is available for consultation.

[Recommendation to the Japan Academy Award Association]
Recently, the screening process for becoming an Academy Award member has become stricter, making it difficult for freelancers to become members. You will be given priority membership if you are recommended by the Directors Association.

[Publishing newsletter]
It contains articles about the association's activities, news about its members, and exchanges of information with overseas film organizations.

[Manuscript paper with the name of the Directors Association]
We carry out the distribution at actual cost.

Employee Welfare

Both types of National Health Insurance have lower premiums than public National Health Insurance.

[Condolence money]
In the unlikely event that you die (if you have been a member for five years), your surviving family will receive a condolence payment of 200,000 yen. Additionally, if you are hospitalized for more than a month due to illness or injury, you will receive a consolation fee (30,000 yen). If a family member (parents, children) dies, the association will send fresh flowers or a condolence gift (20,000 yen).

[Severance pay mutual aid]
You can join the Small Business Mutual Aid (individually funded retirement benefit system). The entire premium will be deducted from your income.
