Since its founding in 1936 (Showa 11), the Japan Film Directors Association has continued its activities to develop the film and video field and improve the status of directors. We are making various efforts to establish and protect directors' copyrights and gain creative freedom.

Activities and history
In April 1936, feature film directors came together to free themselves from the constraints of the (at that time) five-company agreement and establish independence and rights. Established for the purpose of welfare protection, technological research, etc. Later, the number of members reached almost 11, including directors of non-dramatic films (cultural films, etc.), but it was disbanded in 4 at the request of the government. Rebuilt in 5 (Showa 300). In 1943, the company was reorganized as a business cooperative under the Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperative Association Act.
The purpose and business of the association is to carry out necessary joint projects for the benefit of the members, to develop the visual field, and to improve the economic status of the members, based on the spirit of mutual aid among the members. , 1. Establishment and protection of copyright and moral rights of members, 2. Establishment and protection of freedom of expression, 3. In addition to collective bargaining agreements, we also carry out projects such as welfare programs and newcomer awards.
